This season of Dessert Theatre kicked off on January 30, 2026, with performances by the 3rd and 5th grades in the Louisa Performing Arts Center. Dessert Theatre, which began more than 50 years ago at Ģý, is more than acting. The program allows students in Kindergarten through grade 5 the freedom to explore the world through characters while solving problems and growing their communication skills and confidence. Theatre is a truly collaborative art form in which children learn to be responsible for themselves and others. This social cooperation reinforces and motivates positive behavior and builds personal integrity. The art of presenting theatre also engages whole minds through the genuine application of literacy and the integration of knowledge across the curriculum.
3rd Grade: Aunt Rhodie's Diet
Aunt Rhodie is a kindhearted woman whose love for animals sometimes clashes with her uncontrollable appetite. When Aunt Rhodie’s overflowing farm runs low on food, she and her community plan a hot cross bun eating contest to save the animals, but chaos erupts when Aunt Rhodie sleepwalks and eats every bun, transforming into the hilarious “Aunt Rhodiesaurus.” With teamwork, humor, and a little hypnosis, the town restores Aunt Rhodie, saves the farm, and proves that compassion, friendship, and self-control can lead to a happily-ever-after for everyone, animals included. A special thank you to Band Director Brent Moorhead and the 5th-grade band for performing songs to help immerse the audience in this entertaining play.
5th Grade: Steel Ashes
Steel Ashes is a tense post-apocalyptic drama about a small group of survivors struggling to hold onto their humanity in a world overrun by human-machine hybrids. When one of their own is captured, and the group infiltrates a functioning lab to rescue him, loyalty, fear, and moral limits are pushed to the breaking point. As technology turns compassion into a weapon, the survivors must choose between survival at any cost and the bonds that make them human. In the aftermath of sacrifice and betrayal, Steel Ashes asks whether hope itself can endure, even when the world has burned to ash.
5th Grade: Mission Possible
Mission Possible is a sweeping science-fiction drama and follows Kael, a loyal emissary sent by his king to observe the enemy during a devastating interstellar war. Disguised as a traveler, Kael discovers that those labeled “the enemy” are ordinary beings who are hungry, frightened, and weary of the same conflict. As trust grows and suspicion tightens, Kael is forced to choose between completing his mission or protecting the lives he has come to understand. Defying fear, tyranny, and expectation, Kael risks everything to confront a ruler who thrives on division. In the end, his courage transforms a war of conquest into a peace built on empathy, proving that lasting peace is forged not by weapons, but by the bravery to see one another as equals.
