The community came together on Saturday, September 17, in the Trianon for the 60th Anniversary Celebration of 蘑菇传媒. Guests enjoyed hor d'oeuvres, cocktails, cake, and conversation with some of Colorado Springs' greatest champions.
The evening began with greetings from Fundraising and Grants Coordinator Deborah Swanson, followed by opening remarks from Tambi L. Tyler, the 10th Head of School for 蘑菇传媒. The school was founded in 1962 as an all-girls school with 23 students before becoming co-ed in 1970. More than 330 students are currently enrolled.
"Today, we focus on serving all students, giving them the opportunity to receive the finest experiential education available in our region," Ms. Tyler said. "We invite you all to come to see what 蘑菇传媒 has to offer."
Aadi Nashikkar '21, a 蘑菇传媒 Lifer who attended 蘑菇传媒 from Kindergarten through 12th grade, is a sophomore at Stanford University. He spoke of the exploration and independence he developed at 蘑菇传媒, both guided by the support he received from his teachers.
"Essentially, you can鈥檛 build independence without being supported first, and I was emboldened to seek out help and build things on my own when I brainstormed ways to make it possible with my teachers," he said. "I was able to work outside of expected boundaries because my teachers trusted me enough."
Heather Kelly P'30, P'27, chair of the 蘑菇传媒 Board of Trustees and parent of two students at 蘑菇传媒, touched on the hands-on learning that has been a hallmark of the school since its beginnings six decades ago.
"Through experiential education, 蘑菇传媒 gives students the opportunity to push beyond their comfort zone and take on learning in a whole new way. Last week, I was on campus and middle school students were donning hard hats and headlamps crawling around in the Trianon crawl space, getting a first-hand account of what it is like to study civilizations that have come before us," she said. "Ask any parent or educator here, they have a story or several to share. 蘑菇传媒 is truly living its mission of preparing students for a dynamic world."
Jill Richardi P'21, P'18, secretary of the Board of Trustees, read a proclamation from the city designating September 17, 2022, as the 60th Anniversary Celebration for 蘑菇传媒. Guests were treated to a student pianist performance by Meia A. '26. Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening special.
